Don’t have a hot attack: Here come the #cardiology press releases

The American College of Cardiology conference this week has already started to generate a flood of press release about important and less than important research into the care and prevention of heart ailments.

For example, for some context on the Globe’s story on the success of a new approach to aortic valve surgery, read this story from the HeartWire on the costs of the approach:  $80,000 more than conventional heart surgery.

….the PARTNER cohort A data and the cohort B economic analysis came on the heels of a presidential plenary lecture by Dr James Orbinski (University of Toronto, ON), the former president of the international council of Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), showing that just a few dollars a day can sustain life in sub-Saharan Africa.

Granted, a short wire story can’t offer the same information as two long web pages, but Health News Review blog argues that we can do better. The blog’s sister site also offer help on making sense of medical research findings.
